Material Matters is hosting three materials lectures during this year’s Dutch Design Week. Together with Els Zijlstra (Materia) and Karin van Beurden (Saxion University), Aart will be lecturing about visions of the future of materials in design.

Saturday October 24, the lectures are English spoken, topics are “Biomimicy” and “Materials Utopia” . To reserve your seat, please send an e-mail to info@materialmatters.nl

Material Matters is an Eindhoven based materials platform for designers, architects, product developers. In collaboration with Materia, Material Matters presents a collection of 350 inspiring materials during the Dutch Design Week 2009.

You can download the invitation (pdf) here, or directly see the Dutch Design Week program.

Lecture on the Strategic Use of Materials (October 22)

“What makes us recognize a suitcase made by Rimowa, even from afar? Why do iconic aluminum bottles make Heineken a more premium brand? How can FREITAG turn recycled materials into products with soul?

Besides being a means for production, material is a silent but important messenger of identity. With contemporary case studies, Aart will focus on the role and importance of materials in design from a marketing perspective. Material Stories makes materials selection go beyond form and function by including the strategic context of branding and identity. In other words, materials must match the brand!”

I have been invited to lecture on the strategic use of materials in design and branding during this year’s Innenausbau/Möbel Innenarchitektur 2008 conference. The event is organized by the Bayern Innovativ website and focuses on the development and application of new materials in interior and furniture design. See the Bayern Innovativ website or download the flyer (pdf) for more information.

P.s. If there are any Material Stories readers around, let me know – looking forward meeting you in Bavaria.
